Mankind is THE creative animal. Somehow, we’ve managed to engineer our dominance within the animal kingdom, for better or perhaps worse, through pure creativity and problem solving. An impressive feat whatever way you look at it. We are all born creative, whether we think we are ‘good at art’ or not.
Ironically, it is our reliance on human invention that can subdue our creative minds. When all our problems are being solved for us, or if we’re being constantly entertained, we are less likely to need to engage with our creative minds and thoughts.

One simple (but not necessarily easy) remedy could be to put yourself in more challenging situations, where figuring out a creative solution is more likely to be required. Another could be as simple as setting limits on recreational internet use – what is more sedating to the brain than todays hyper-optimised internet?
Why bother? Well, to be able to connect with yourself and others, especially in person is an asset, but more importantly, it’s enriching. To have an engaged creative mind that has space and time to think will provide better solutions to problems. In business and in life. Just what we all need when leaping into a new year.
