Where and what did you study?
I studied Natural Sciences and Visual Arts at Collège Calvin, Economics and Social Sciences at The University of Geneva, Environmental Engineering at HEPIA Geneva, Ecotourism at Edinburgh Napier University, and Global Sustainability Engineering at Heriot-Watt University. At present, I have two online courses left to complete: Energy and Transitions Management at Robert Gordon University and Sustainable Tourism at The University of Glasgow.
What made you decide to start up The Positive Event?
I just want to make my life more interesting, that’s all! I’m only joking-but there’s some truth to it. Life is short, we only get one shot at it, and I want to make mine extraordinary. I’m a creative person, so I want to build something completely different in terms of how we work together. My team members can even become my business partners if they have the qualities I’m looking for. Above all, I encourage people to become self-employed or start their own businesses. I don’t think the traditional employer-employee relationship is particularly healthy-it feels a bit like modern-day servitude. For a more formal response to your question, please refer to my LinkedIn business profile.
Could you explain how your start-up operates?
At the moment, I’m bringing in volunteers to help build my team. I’m not sure many startups have taken this approach—probably not. A Chinese entrepreneur once told me I’d never succeed with volunteers, but I intend to prove him wrong. I have faith in people, even though some can be careless or unreliable. That’s just human nature—we all have our flaws. But my aim is to find the 20% of people who share my mindset.
What impact does The Positive Event have?
The most tangible difference we’ve made is raising awareness about sustainability issues in the events industry through our consultancy work. We’ve managed to spread the message through LinkedIn and other social media channels. Of course, we’re not the only ones offering this kind of service in the UK and beyond—we’re simply playing our part alongside our friendly competitors. My long-term vision is for my business to help cultivate a healthy supply chain that nurtures the events industry. I hope more businesses will be keen to meet high standards of sustainability in their operations and choose to collaborate with us, as we’ll be offering them more opportunities to supply the events we support.
What do you think is the most impressive thing about your start-up?
Probably our ability to bring people together for a shared cause.
You’ve cultivated a strong sense of community at your start-up. How have you managed to achieve this, and why is it important?
Community is at the heart of change. It’s the foundation of society—giving people a sense of belonging that makes them feel stronger than they would alone. I never set out with a grand plan to build a community, but I think people believe in what I’m doing because I genuinely want to make a difference. The goal is to do something meaningful for society and to protect our future, and because it’s a worthwhile cause, people naturally want to get involved.
What’s your favourite piece of business, career or life advice that you’d pass on to others?
For business: The classic advice—entrepreneurs don’t stop until they succeed.
For careers: Do what you love, and success will follow.
For life: Live every moment to the fullest. Don’t take life too seriously—treat it as a game. And perhaps a more philosophical take—see life as something to be treasured and enjoyed.
